Plain Chocolate Cake

As I begin to realize my dream of becoming an illustrator, I realized that I had yet to create an original illustration outside of stickers. I embarked on a 6-month long journey of not only painting an original illustration but also creating my largest work to date. I documented my journey through videos that I shared with my community. “Plain Choclate Cake” tells the story of a little black girl finding comfort and validation through a chocolate cake. The bakery owner has labeled the cake “Plain Chocolate Cake” but has not given it a price knowing how invaluable it is to the pastry display. Watercolor and Colored pencil were used to create this work that was completed in February 2025.
